Stop Hair Thinning : The Anti DHT Diet

Hey everyone!

Hair loss has become an extremely rampant these days owing to the current lifestyle and stress. Many youngsters are also suffering from thinning. There are many types of hair thinning,( the details of which I shall talk about in another post) – the commonest of which is Androgenetic Alopecia.

WHAT IS ANDROGENETIC ALOPECIA :

The hormone testosterone is present in males and females – with a higher concentration in males which makes them more prone to balding. Testosterone gradually gets converted to dihydrotestosterone or DHT. Ideally only 1% of testosterone should get converted to DHT but in some individuals the receptors for this hormone are very high i.e their reactivity towards this hormone is very high, which makes them prone to thinning and balding.

WHAT DOES DHT DO :

DHT

  • It causes gradual thinning of the hair
  • It reduces the blood supply to the hair root resulting in difficulty in hair regrowth.

ANDROGENETIC ALOPECIA IS PROGRESSIVE – IT WORSENS WITH AGE AND TIME AND IRREVERSIBLE – ONCE YOU DETERIORATE IT IS DIFFICULT TO GO BACK TO THE PREVIOUS STAGE.

HENCE PREVENTION IS THE BEST WHEN IT COMES TO HAIR THINNING.

I will be enlisting a few anti DHT agents which can help you to prevent hair thinning :

  • SOYABEAN :

SOYA

Besides being a very good source of proteins – which are a must for good hair, research suggests that soy can reduce the DHT levels in the blood thus preventing hair thinning.

  • GREEN TEA :

GREEN TEA

An excellent antioxidant green tea is capable of slowing down degenerative and aging changes. It is also a wonderful anti DHT agent that can control the DHT levels.

  • PUMPKIN SEEDS :

PUMPKIN

These can reduce the conversion of testosterone to DHT. Even a handful of pumpkin seeds taken daily can work magic..

  • BIOTIN RICH FOODS :

egg

It is known to reduce the excess hairfall associated with DHT. Good sources of biotin are egg yolk, avocado, whole wheat bread.

  • PHYTOSTEROLS :

ALMOND

Phytosterols or plant steroids can reduce the DHT levels. Rich sources are almonds, olive oil, peanuts.

So this was all about the Anti DHT diet. Do include these ingredients in your diet to prevent hair thinning. Hope you find the post useful….
